THEATRE
PROMOS

I have been fortunate bringing a filmic style to promos for many theaters in the Bay Area. Jumping into the opposing aesthetics of the aggressive dancing in Billy Elliot, the highly stylized nature of The Gentleman's Guide To Murder, and the epic nature of Les Misérables thrills me.

I don’t believe that theatre trailers should be limited to one-camera back of house filming. If it’s a video, let’s make it cinematic and suck in the viewer.

For Center Rep’s Don't Dress For Dinner, I created a 1960s movie trailer, complete with split screens, handheld shots and a Burt Bacharach-ish soundtrack.

TheatreWorks was looking to present a different type of visual promotion for their shows and, excitedly, that's what I’ve been bringing to the Bay Area for the last few years.

After a pitch, they allowed me to film what I wanted and encouraged me to increase the video output at a time when theaters were not doing this.

Winner of the 2019 Tony Award for Best Regional Theatre

Theatreworks was given a 15 second spot on National TV to promote their Tony win in 2019.

I was given a series of photos and a voice over, digested the broadcast specs, and in two days handed a National TV spot to the Network.

It aired during the Tonys.

They Promised Her the Moon. An amazing script .

When I read this script about a singular moment in the history of the American space program, I knew immediately what I wanted to do.

I wanted to represent the lead character’s visions and childhood in a 16mm Terrence Malick style—cross-cut with her in the blackness of the chamber, which eventually became her in space. Despite intense time restrictions with the performers, I'm extremely proud of how this trailer came out.

ADDITIONAL THEATREWORKS VIDEOS:

From the cool blues of The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, to a parent's VHS tape of their children's holiday show in The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, to the bowties, corsets and stylish jewels of An Ideal Husband, I was allowed the chance to help represent these shows both in keeping with the branding of the theatre and the individual style of each piece.

ADDITIONAL THEATRE PROMOS

Theaters are finally beginning to understand the power that video content can have.

It's a marketing tool that is not chained to just one theater and its marketing department.

Twenty more chances for your show to be seen. Multiplied by the number of socials they use. And by the number of shares.

And if you create more than one video (a trailer, a cast interview, musical numbers from the show, etc.) you have exponentially increased the chances of putting butts in the seats.
