I was recently hired by local Bay Area Theaters to create trailers for upcoming productions. I wanted to approach it in a style different than the normal ‘Here’s some footage from a production’ method.
My thinking was to treat it almost like a movie, show moments or moods or specific details to give the audience an idea of what they’re in for — but don’t give it all away (as most movie trailers tend to do these days)
Here are a collection of the trailers I’ve shot for Center REP, CCMT and Lafayette’s Town Hall Theatre Company.
COMPANY — Town Hall Theatre Company
Trailer for Center REP’s production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.
music: ‘The People’s House’ by John Williams from the Lincoln Soundtrack
‘Pandemonium’ from the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee cast recording
The trailer for Contra Costa Musical Theatre’s production of ‘Les Miserables’.
A new promotional trailer for Center REP’s production of ‘Clybourne Park’. A fantastic show!
The trailer for Center REP's production of 'Clybourne Park'. Jan 31 – Mar 1, 2014. center rep.org for tickets
A new promotional trailer for Center REP’s production of ‘Don’t Dress For Dinner’.
The show takes place in 1973 and I wanted to try and emulate that late 60s/early 70s movie trailer vibe — combination of steady studio shots and handheld footage you were starting to see director’s implement in their style.
